DAKAR RALLY 2022

HOME > 2022 Season

When it was first created, the Dakar Rally was held on the African continent. In 2009, the stage was moved to South America. Continuing to its third chapter, the location moved once again in 2020 and started being held in the Middle East, and in 2022, the rally will be held again in Saudi Arabia.

While this will be the third time the rally takes place in Saudi Arabia, almost all the routes have been revised, and the adventure will unfold in the Empty Quarter (a vast and empty land) located in the Rub' al Khali desert.

For the 2022 rally, the prologue run which decides the starting positions, will commence in the city of Haʼil in the northern region of Saudi Arabia. Following the prologue, the actual stages will start from January 2nd. A total of 12 stages over a period of 13 days and a goal in Jeddah on January 14th are planned, with a rest day on January 8th in the capital city Riyadh.

The rally will unfold amidst a landscape of vast sand dune ranges which will require not only driving skills but also navigation skills. There will be two loop stages and a marathon stage in the Rub' al Khali desert where mechanics are prohibited from providing maintenance and spare parts – a harsh rally awaits.
